Learning to Walk

Sorry for the lack of updates! I will be better about it this summer. I'm about eleven days out of surgery now and despite it being a very slow recovery process I am happy to report I am getting better I was thinking about how funny it is that my nephew (who is turning one next week) can probably attempt to walk just about as good as I can at this point. Haha..we can learn to walk together.!

So let me start at the beginning for those of you a little late in the story. I went skiing in Winter Park Colorado with my college ministry over spring break. The second day during my last run I tore my acl, and sprained my mcl and meniscus. That was back in March.
May 12th was my first appointment with Dr. Lemak and I had my surgery May 13th. Those first couple of days were pretty rough. I had expected it to be a painful experience but not that painful! I can say that it is the most intense pain I've ever felt in my life .....but that doesn't mean much. I don't have anything to compare it to! : ) I'll get back to yall in six to ten years after child birth! haha.. (which i'm sure is more painful)

Since my parent's bedroom is the only one on the first floor they were sweet enough to let me stay there for what they liked to call the "honeymoon period". The first four days consisted of sleeping and physical therapy and that was about it! Physical therapy actually started the day after my surgery so I could start building up my muscles and bending that knee! The first day of physical therapy was painful. I had done most of the exercises before surgery trying to strengthen my leg but this time was very different. Before surgery I had been bending my leg at 140 and that day I could bend it at 40.
Now I am back in my room on the second floor! yay for climbing stairs. I know my parents are enjoying their room back. Even though I know they enjoyed their stay on the couches ; ) The pain has gotten a lot better. It still hurts but I am only taking my medicine when I am going to physical therapy. (as oppose to every four hours) I can bend my knee at 106 and I am right on track with recovery. The worst thing probably right now is that my full leg knee brace is getting very uncomfortable. But each day I am making steady improvements so that is encouraging. I think I've watched more t.v this past week than I did the entire school year!
Now since I got hurt in Colorado my crutches have spikes on the bottom of them. Thats right, they have spikes. I used them about twice in Colorado but haven't had any need for them in Texas or Alabama. They are however a GREAT conversation starter. I found this website lemonaidcrutches.com and I think they beat me on conversation starter wow factor. Here is a sample of what they offer! I don't think the girl with the full leg brace and crutches could go unnoticed but apparently these would deff. help me get noticed! Ew is all that comes to mind when I look at them :)
